Brittany’s coastal path, Le Sentier des Douaniers

Its official name is the GR34. Over 1,700 kilometers long, it follows the Brittany coast from La Baule in the south to the Mont Saint-Michel in the north. But no-one round here calls it anything other than the ‘sentier des douaniers’ or ‘customs officers’ path’. First created in 1791 to help the country in its battles with smugglers – not to mention with our friends across the Channel! – this coastal trail still offers one of the most spectacular walks in France. A walk that can be enjoyed for days – or for just an hour or two.
